DEFREESTVILLE, NY – Saturday night was a night of firsts at Fonda Speedway for Cody Bleau.
It was his first race in a DKM Cyclone Chassis. It was also his first race at the ‘Track Of Champions’ under direction of new track promoter Brett Deyo. It was also the first time Cody had to charge through the field late in a Modified feature after mechanical problems, and he nearly got back to the top 10. All-in-all, it was a great evening for the young racer.
After finishing second in his heat, Bleau drew lucky #7 for the main event and was working his way up the leaderboard when contact with another competitor gave him a feeling that something was miss in his Greg’s Towing #73.
“After I got hit, I knew the steering didn’t feel right,” Bleau said. “Under caution, the steering drag link broke and we had to be towed in. Thanks to all the cautions that followed, my team had time to fix the problem and we got back out.”
From that point, the Defreestville, NY driver worked his way around the tricky track and kept his nose clean the rest of the way. He steered clear of all trouble and came home with a solid 11th-place finish.
“Would I have liked a better result, absolutely,” he said. “Am I proud of what we were able to get back to 11th, you bet. My team did amazing to get us back out there and get as many points as possible. This finish is all because of them.”
Bleau was also extremely happy with his first run in a DKM Cyclone chassis.
“I am very impressed with this car,” he said. “It handles well and responded to all the changes we made tonight.”
Cody is also very excited to have one of the head guys at DKM, Dave Constantino, as his teammate this season…especially when it comes to chassis set-up.
“Having Dave on the team has already helped out a ton,” he said. “We are making adjustments that I’ve never done at the track. It’s great to have him around to ask questions and bounce ideas off of. I love learning as much as I can.”
Constantino also had a great run in his first event as Bleau’s teammate. The driver of the #34 came home fifth on Saturday night and that has Cody optimistic for this season.
“Dave had an awesome run in the feature,” he said. “They have a great program going at DKM and I hope I can represent them well.”
Up next for Cody and the #73 team is Meet & Greet Night at Fonda this Saturday. The Modifieds will take to the track for another fast-paced 30-lap main event with racing scheduled to start at 7pm.
